Man arrested over fire that caused ‘extensive damage’ at a Mitcham school

A school in Melbourne’s east has been extensively damaged by fire.

Investigators have been told a fire broke out at Antonio Park Primary School in Mitcham just after midnight.

Firefighters attended and extinguished the blaze, but it caused extensive damage to one of the school buildings, and spread to nearby vegetation.

A 29-year-old Sale man has been charged with criminal damage by fire.

He will face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.
