Stonnington Council has been slammed by one of its one after it held what the councillor says was an unapproved event on Australia Day that cost ratepayers $8000.

East ward councillor Alexander Lew told Tom Elliott the Indigenous “healing ceremony” on January 26 had not been voted on.

“It was never something that was brought to council,” he said on 3AW Drive.

Cr Lew admits it would have likely been given the go-ahead if voted on, regardless, given the “Left-wing” infiltration of the council.

But he said that didn’t reflect community sentiment and that Australians should be “proud” of the country’s history.

“We need to start pushing back against this identity politics and insidious attempt to re-write history,” he said.
