State of Origin national anthem performance mocked
The performance of the national anthem at the State of Origin last night has been mocked mercilessly.
Singer Matilda Moran sang Advance Australia Fair to about 52,000 people as Queensland secured a 22 to 12 win in the series final at Suncorp Stadium.
But the rendition has been criticised online, with one person saying it sounded “like the Teletubbies remix”.
A musician has messaged Neil Mitchell saying the backing track “sounds like it came from a kids pop-up book”.
“He’s right, it sounds like a kids’ pop-up book … or one of those electronic backing tracks,” the 3AW Mornings host agreed.
“Why can’t we get it right?
“No backing at all is really necessary for the national anthem. If you’re going to do it, you have the full orchestra type thing, not some beatboxing in the background!”
