Victoria has hit international headlines for controversially shooting hundreds of koalas, which they say have been injured in a recent bushfire.

A fire inside the Budj Bim National Park in March has reportedly left up to 700 koalas needing to be euthanised.

But shadow environment minister Brad Roswell said he was shocked by how the Allan government was approaching the issue.

“How can you possibly tell a koala is fire-damaged by hanging out the window of a helicopter with a sniper at hand,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“It’s not the right way to go about it.”
