Sport Minister’s ‘expectation’ of Brazil v Argentina MCG blockbuster
Soccer giants Brazil and Argentina will play in Melbourne, in a major win for Victoria.
The teams will play at the MCG on June 11, in the lead up to the FIFA World Cup.
Victorian Sports Minister Martin Pakula says his “expectation” is that big-name stars will play.
“Our expectation, based on the discussions we’ve had, is that players like Messi and Neymar will be here,” he told Ross and Russel.
“We can’t be 100 per cent certain about that but we’ve been told this is an important preparation for them in the lead up to the World Cup.”
Mr Pakula expects interstate residents will flock to Melbourne for the blockbuster clash.
“When we last had them here we had about 95,000 at the MCG and there was a lot of interstate visitation,” he said.
“It’s not often that you get to see football of that quality in Australia.”
Tickets for the event go on sale on Thursday.
