South Australian keeper to make debut in second ODI
Alex Carey will make his one-day international debut for Australia on Friday after Tim Paine succumbed to illness.
The Adelaide Strikers star, 26, was drafted into the squad on Thursday as cover for the unwell Paine, who had been struggling with a gastro bug.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Carey will wear the gloves for the second ODI against England at the Gabba, Cricket Australia confirmed prior to the toss.
Carey hit a match-winning century for the Strikers against Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League on Wednesday.
Jhye Richardson is also in line to make his ODI bow, with paceman Josh Hazlewood battling illness, while Ashes hero Pat Cummins is set to be rested.
Australia are looking to level the five-match ODI series after losing the opener by five wickets in Melbourne.
