‘Signpost that Melbourne is back’: Flemington ‘buzzing’ ahead of the Melbourne Cup
The race that stops the nation is today restarting the city, with a crowd of 10,000 expected at Flemington.
It’s the largest crowd at an event since Melbourne emerged from lockdown.
And today’s expected top of 30°C is the warmest day in seven months.
Today Show reporter at Flemington, Christine Ahern, says there’s a “buzz”.
“It’s a hive of activity. So people like caterers, all those workers, getting ready,” she told Ross and Russel.
“I stood here last year when there were no racegoers allowed at all and it was absolutely depressing, and I have to say, there is a buzz.
“It is a real signpost that Melbourne is back.”
