Shepparton fishing shop in strife over commercials which discriminate against Muslims
A Shepparton fishing tackle shop has found itself in trouble over two ads, which the Advertising Standards bureau says discriminate against Muslims.
A print ad offers free pork kebabs for ‘one day only, Halal or Haram’ while in a TV ad, a man speaks of welcoming migrants especially those who assimilate, before saying ‘Hey Habib, get me another beer’.
But the man behind them says it’s a storm in a teacup.
‘I have been doing this for 30 years, if you are a group out there and I haven’t picked on you yet, I’ll probably get to you at sometime,’ Stephen Threlfall from Trelly’s Tackle World told Neil Mitchell.
Complaints were made to the Advertising Standards Bureau that the ads were deeply offensive, racist and discriminatory.
The bureau agreed. They ruled the ads vilified Muslims; and therefore breached the Advertiser Code of Ethics.
