Shepparton braces for river peak which could see thousands of homes inundated
Shepparton is awash with floodwaters this morning and there are fears thousands of homes could go under.
The Goulburn River expected to peak at 12.2 metres this morning, with creeks now converging with that river system and water is also coming up from the drains.
Hundreds of homes have already been affected and authorities predict over 7000 will be impacted by floodwaters, of those, 2500 are expected to be inundated.
“We did expect the peak at 4am but it’s been pushed back a couple of hours,” Today reporter Christine Ahern told Ross and Russel.
“They are facing record floods.”
Mooroopna substation has gone under, leaving thousands without power for days.
The SES has conducted 173 rescues in the last 24 hours, most of them in the Shepparton area.
