Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton admits imminent industrial action isn’t ideal, but says his members are “stuck between a rock and a hard place”.

Police are set to walk off the job for the first time in 25 years as they continue to fight for a better pay deal.

Mr Patton says he was determined to resolve the current impasse “as soon as we can”, conceding walking off the job “wasn’t a great look”.

“Essential services won’t be interrupted (during the strike action),” he told Jacqui Felgate on 3AW Drive.

“They’ll be no risk to community.”
