Tom Elliott has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the federal Labor government’s decision to exclude questions on the 2026 census regarding LGBTQIA+ identities.

The 3AW Mornings host said he doesn’t have a problem with the census asking about people’s sexuality, but finds it “odd” that Labor has backflipped from their 2022 election promise.

“We need to know these things to allocate government spending,” he said.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has this morning announced a new question on sexual preference will be on the census, backflipping after scrutiny from MPs and the LGBTQIA+ community.
