Second disturbing human head theft from a Melbourne cemetery
FIRST with NEIL MITCHELL
A second disturbing case of human remains has occurred at a Melbourne cemetery.
It was yesterday reported grave robbers stole a human head from a mausoleum at Footscray General Cemetery.
Police have today confirmed a second case of body part theft to Neil Mitchell.
Victoria Police Acting Inspector Ben Jarman says one case was on or around January 28 and the second was on or around February 1.
“It appears to be linked in terms of the method and how it has occurred,” he told Neil Mitchell.
Both victims were elderly at the time of death and no link between the pair has yet been identified.
Acting Inspector Jarman says “something substantial” must have been used to beak into the mausoleums.
“It wouldn’t be a screwdriver or anything like that,” he said.
Police are calling for anyone with information to come forward.
