As the federal election approaches, 9News political editor Chris Ulhmann says Scott Morrison has made a subtle but telling change to the language he uses while campaigning.

Mr Ulhmann says Mr Morrison can’t run the same campaign he ran during the last election.

“He has to actually address the fact that he’s lost some skin,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

“He was the key salesman the last time around. That means he can’t run the same campaign this time around.”

Mr Ulhmann says a subtle language used by the Prime Minister this week indicates he’s aware he needs to approach the election differently this time.

“Yesterday he started talking about his team,” he said.

“Listen to their words very closely and you’ll see where their fears and their hopes lie, and when the Prime Minister talks about his team it means people no longer have the confidence in him alone to run this.

“So it is a question of character for both men.”
