Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison says Australia has three choices when it comes to solving the deficit.

We can introduce taxes, send ‘the bill’ to future generations, or get expenses under control.

He said he wouldn’t stop trying to ensure it was the latter option.

Mr Morrison told Tom Elliott the government had already passed about $23 billion in welfare saving.

He wants to get another $6 billion in savings through the Senate, which has been blocked.

‘Once governments start handing money out, it’s very difficult to make the decision to go and say we can’t afford that any more,’ the treasurer told Tom Elliott.

‘I have no desire to increase taxes or increase debt ? that’s why we put this bill in parliament.’
