Scott Morrison says while his party has “been the underdog” throughout this election campaign, he’s not “toast”.

Speaking to Neil Mitchell on election eve, the Prime Minister declined to comment on what LNP polling suggests will be the outcome of the election, but he expects it to be “very tight”.

“Federal elections are always very tight,” he said.

Mr Morrison said anyone who suggests he’s “toast” is “wrong”.

NEIL MITCHELL: “Some of the insiders are telling me the Prime Minister is toast — you’re gone — are you toast?”

SCOTT MORRISON: “Well they’re wrong! And they were wrong last time too, remember? Everybody is so certain before polling day. What I’m always certain of is the Australian people and their judgement.”

Scott Morrison has referred to himself as a “bit of a bulldozer” throughout this election campaign.

He says he’ll still be a bulldozer if re-elected, but he’ll be in a different gear.

“In a pandemic you’re dealing with issues, there’s not a lot of time to have widespread consultation,” he said.

“You get them as right as you can and when they don’t go in the direction that you’d hoped you get in there and you fix it… The next phase, as we put this pandemic thankfully behind us, and all the imposition that it brought … we have the opportunity to move into a new gear as a government.”
