Melbourne scientists have discovered what makes golden staph turn deadly, in a major breakthrough which could save lives.

The naturally occurring bacterium is found in one third of the population and in most cases it’s harmless.

For the first time, scientists have discovered how the bacteria hides inside human cells to avoid detection.
