Schools encouraged to stick with uniforms

Schools are being encouraged to maintain uniform requirements after a school in Melbourne’s west changed their policy.

Footscray High School will only require their students to wear a top with the school’s logo on it from 2023.

However, Victorian Association of State Secondary Principals president Colin Axup said “in most cases” school uniform is “advantageous”.

“If you have a school uniform it makes it very easy,” he told Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive.

“They get up … and make the decision about the time of year, how hot or cold it is, and then they wear the appropriate uniform.

“It’s certainly economically more viable for many parents.”
