A leading Sydney school has banned Australian rules football because of concussion concerns.

Queenwood Girls School has withdrawn from school competition because the sport was deemed “too great a risk” to a developing brain.

Professor Owen White, Adjunct Clinical Professor of Neuroscience at Monash University, told Neil Mitchell the sport needed to change.

“We’ve always had major impact as a part of our game,” Professor White said.

“I think major impact, probably in the long run, has to be got rid of.”
