A Deer Park man has been charged as part of an investigation into an alleged scam which ripped off over 100 people.

The victims were defrauded nearly $300,000 in total.

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives have been investigating a string of alleged puppy scams, false advertising in online marketplaces and scams where the caller claimed to be from the Australian Tax Office or a mobile phone company.

The scams occurred between April 2018 and September 2021.

Police have identified a total of 109 people who lost a total of $295,705.

A 32-year-old Deer Park man has been charged in relation to the string of scams.
