Sam McClure says he was “really surprised” by Caroline Wilson’s criticism of Alastair Clarkson’s animated behaviour on the boundary line during North Melbourne’s thrilling one-point win over Fremantle.

Wilson said Clarkson would have looked “a bit foolish” had North Melbourne ended up losing the game.

Speaking on the Margin Call podcast, co-host Sam McClure said Wilson’s criticism of Clarkson was unfair.

“I never looked on that … and thought ‘oh that’s a bit much’,” he said.

“I just think they’ve been so deprived and bereft of any hope or positivity, those boys, I think he’s doing it deliberately to get some attention from his players and to his players.

“I didn’t mind it.”
