Sally Capp elected Lord Mayor of Melbourne

Sally Capp is the new Lord Mayor of Melbourne.

The prominent business woman has won the election.

“I am humbled and grateful to have received the support of Melburnians, who have elected me as the next Lord Mayor of our wonderful city,” Ms Capp said in a statement.

Ms Capp replaces Robert Doyle in the role after he was forced to resign following allegations of misconduct.

She becomes the first female leader of Melbourne City Council in almost 30 years.
