Saints coach praises Carlisle’s response to drug video
St Kilda coach Alan Richardson has gone in to bat for embattled recruit Jake Carlisle.
Richardson praised Carlisle’s response to having footage of him appearing to take illicit drugs broadcast nationally.
‘To his credit he’s put his hand up and said the change needs to be reflected in my contract,’ Richardson told Nathan Brown on Friday.
‘That will go a small way to winning the respect of his teammates.’
Carlisle has received a two-match suspension and a $50,000 fine, among other penalties.
But Richardson said the issue runs deeper than this one incident.
‘This is the AFL saying that there needs to be a message sent that this can’t be condoned,’ Richardson said.
