Rumour File: Teacher sets unofficial record for working with six former students
RUMOUR CONFIRMED
A primary school teacher in Victoria’s northwest has set an unofficial teaching record.
‘Dear Teacher’ told 3AW Breakfast’s Rumour File about a Grade Six Primary School teacher in regional Victoria who works alongside six teacher colleagues who were former pupils of his.
Paul Matters from Donald Primary School confirmed this was true.
‘After 33 years teaching at the school, I’ve had plenty of students who have become teachers,’ he said.
‘It’s great to see students come back and want to get into teaching and be successful at what they do.’
Mr Matters has taught all year levels excluding Prep at Donald Primary School.
The 62-year-old has shown no signs of stopping anytime soon, and wants to teach until he’s at least 65.
When students want to become teachers, he encourages them to do so.
‘For sure, it’s a great job, it’s rewarding seeing kids succeed,’ he said.
‘I get a lot of enjoyment seeing kids doing well.’
