Police confirmed they’d arrested a 28-year-old man, who was allegedly drunk in public at Bundoora.

They said officers put the man inside a police vehicle on Plenty Road about 2am and believed they had locked the handle in place.

But they failed to properly secure the door.

Police were told the man pushed against the door on the way to Heidelberg Station and fell out of the vehicle.

He had minor injuries and was taken to hospital for observation.

An internal investigation is underway.
