Royal Children’s Hospital confirms ‘high demand’ reports

The Royal Children’s Hospital has confirmed it’s under the pump.

The hospital sent 3AW Mornings a statement, confirming it was currently experiencing “high demand” due to a “number” of factors.

STATEMENT FROM THE HOSPITAL

The Royal Children’s Hospital is currently experiencing high demand. This is due to a combination of a high number of medical presentations, including gastro and infectious diseases, as well as an influx of critically unwell patients from referring hospitals.

We will always treat the most seriously ill children first which unfortunately means some patients with less serious conditions may experience longer wait times. We encourage families to use our Emergency Department tracker on the RCH website to gauge wait times.
