Rowboat drowning tragedy at Kew

A man has drowned after a rowboat overturned on the Yarra River at Kew.

Police say the man and a woman were standing on the boat near Yarra Boulevard when it overturned causing them to fall into the water around 7pm yesterday.

The woman managed to swim to the pier but the South Australian man was later found unresponsive.

A passer-by called emergency services but the man could not be revived.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.
