Rough sleepers are being forced to pitch tents as the housing crisis deepens.

The homeless being offered tents as a last resort on the Mornington Peninsula.

A dozen unpowered sites at the council-run campgrounds at Rosebud have been reserved for those struggling to find accommodation.

The sites are provided for two-week stints to allow time for support services to help people find more appropriate accommodation.

The emergency measure comes as skyrocketing rent prices in the region forced some out of there homes.

The cost of renting a house on the Mornington Peninsula has jumped by 26 per cent since the last federal election.
