Ross and John quiz Victoria’s cashed-up Treasurer on our $1.5 billion
The federal government has agreed to release $1.5 billion previously earmarked for the East-West Link to Victoria, provided it’s spent on infrastructure.
The Turnbull government wrote to treasurer Tim Pallas to give him the good news.
The money has been a political hotcake, sitting in Victorian bank accounts since the Andrews government scrapped the toll road.
But now it’s free for Mr Pallas to spend on alternative infrastructure such as the $5 billion Western Distributor proposed by Transurban.
Or the Metro rail tunnel.
