Melbourne’s taxi industry has, for the first time, admitted it’s letting passengers down.

It’s today launching a new campaign to regain ground lost to ride-sharing service Uber.

Drivers will receive greater training through simulators and will be taught how to improve their personal hygiene and better engage with customers.

David Samuel from the Victorian Taxi Association told Ross and John the industry is no longer focusing all its attention on having Uber banned.

‘We’re focusing on ourselves now,’ he said.

‘At the end of the day, if customers aren’t happy with us they’ll leave our service and try the competitors.

‘We have to improve our service and make sure people understand it.’
