A Geelong bakery which runs programs for young people with disabilities has been left devastated by ongoing roadworks.

Owner of Baked By Us, Jess Robinson, says roadworks have been ongoing in the vicinity of her Ryrie Street shop for three years, but roadworks in the past year, often without notice, have left the shop almost completely inaccessible.

“There’s been days … they haven’t told us there’s going to be roadworks completely blocking off the area … so we’ll be unaware and we’ll bake like a normal trade day and then no one will be able to access our shop,” she told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

The bakery owner said she’s now struggling to pay rent as a result of the impact the roadworks are having on her business.

After Ms Robinson shared her plight on 3AW Mornings, the City of Greater Geelong has agreed to help the struggling bakery.

“We will be installing another 15-minute parking bay outside Baked By Us, in addition to the two that already exist next door, to enable convenient access to the store by customers,” City of Greater Geelong director of city planning and economy, Gareth Smith, said in a statement.
