One local resident in Narre Warren has voiced his concern that a popular local lake is being renamed after a prominent Sikh.

Michael Ball told Tom Elliott that the Berwick Springs lake was being renamed ‘Guru Nanak Lake’, with a petition launched to help voice community concern after the sudden name change.

“We have no disrespect to the Sikh community who do fantastic work,” Mr Ball said on 3AW Mornings.

“But the lake is the identity of our area.”

Liberal Member for Berwick Brad Battin said he was disappointed the local residents weren’t probably consulted before the decision was made.
