Amanda Samaroo’s son goes to the middle school on the same campus. She said her son’s classroom was in lockdown.
“A very shocking thing to happen, even in America. You never think it’s going to be your community,” she said.
“It took quite a while to get any information.”
She says she believes there are teachers who have died in the shooting.
“We know they did,” she said.
“There was talk of one teacher, who when they got into the parking lot, realised there was a shooter and told the children to run and put himself in front of two kids.”

US correspondent Bob Tarlau told Ross and John local media footage shows students streaming away from the school, and some students are still locked inside.
“The local fire brigade are calling this a mass casualty situation and authorities have identified a student as a person of interest,” Bob said.
It’s the 13th school shooting in the US so far this year.
“So that means there’s been a school shooting in America every three and a half days,” Ross said.
