Regional Victoria is bracing for a bushfire season with conditions worse than before the Black Saturday bushfires.

Former mayor of Murrundindi Shire during the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, Lyn Gunter, says locals are not prepared to deal with a large fuel load and the confirmed El Nino pattern.

“Which becomes a bit of a concern for those living in regional Victoria, let’s face it, how much of Victoria is fire prone? Most of it,” she told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

Ms Gunter also says Victorians in regional areas need to be aware of how they can help themselves and need to stay informed.

“The CFA, before the fire season, have community meetings that are really important for community to go to,” she said.
