A shopping centre in Melbourne’s bayside was thrown into chaos on Tuesday morning amid reports of what Jacqui Felgate described as a “really scary incident”.

Victoria Police say they believe two male offenders assaulted three victims inside the centre at about 10.50am, with a weapon later retrieved from a bin.

Witness Sarah Axtens told Jacqui Felgate the incident left workers at the Bayside Shopping Centre frightened.

“The workers (at the shopping centre) were besides themselves,” she told 3AW Drive.

“I don’t think they should have to go to wear fearing for their lives.

Police later confirmed a 21-year-old had been arrested, while one other person remains on the run after fleeing the scene.
