Storms in the Sydney area have seen Qantas take the extraordinary step of using an A380 on a domestic route.

Predicted severe weather has limited the number of flights which can land on Friday afternoon, with Qantas calling on the superjumbo to ensure passengers are able to travel without any further delays between Melbourne and Sydney.

“It’s not every day you have an A380 operating between Melbourne and Sydney,” Melbourne Airport spokesperson Andrew Lund told 3AW Drive.

Carrying almost 500 passengers on the A380, QF7168 will take off from Melbourne Airport at 5pm.
