Push to remove Melbourne’s bike lanes to return city to ‘its former glory’
Pop-up bike lanes on major CBD routes including Exhibition Street are negatively impacting the city and should be removed, Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) chief executive Paul Guerra says.
Mr Guerra says current bike lanes “make it almost impossible to get through”.
“We have to get back to a sharing arrangement,” he told Ross and Russel.
“We love our city, we want it to return to its former glory.”
The VCCI boss says he “doesn’t mean all bike lanes have to go”, but cars need to be prioritised on major thoroughfares.
“Things like Exhibition Street need to be addressed,” he said.
Melbourne City Council has fast-tracked its plan to roll out 40km of pop up bike lanes.
