PTV defends decision to streamline Melbourne’s tram services
Public Transport Victoria has defended a decision to cut services on some of Melbourne’s tram routes, saying overall the network will see an increase in services.
As part of timetable changes that come into effect from May 1, services on some routes will be slashed in a move that’s been slammed by the opposition.
But PTV says it’s made timetable changes to ensure the frequency and efficiency of tram services.
PTV CEO Jeroen Weimar says while some routes will see minor adjustments, overall there will be more services.
‘There are six or seven routes where we are adding on more services, so we’re putting more trips in per week,’ he said.
‘And there are half a dozen routes where we have reduced the number of trips by one or two trips a week.’
