PSOs help save wheelchair-bound man from burning home at McKinnon
Protective Services Officers have helped rescue a wheelchair-bound man from a burning unit in Melbourne’s south-east this morning.
The PSOs were patrolling McKinnon train station about 12.30am when they noticed smoke coming from a unit on Station Avenue.
They were unable to gain access to the unit due to the smoke, but communicated with the wheelchair-bound man, aged 56.
MFB crews arrived seconds later, forcing their way into the burning building and rescuing the man.
He was taken to hospital for observations.
The blaze was brought under control and contained to a bedroom within about six minutes.
It’s believed an electrical fault was to blame.
