There have been dramatic scenes in the CBD, with police swarming on Southern Cross Station.

Several witnesses reported seeing dozens of officers descend on the train station at lunchtime on Wednesday.

Police have since confirmed they arrested two 15-year-old girls.

It’s alleged the girls assaulted a woman at a fast-food restaurant on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne’s CBD a short time earlier.

The woman was not injured, and the two girls fled the scene on foot.

Investigators were told the girls then entered a store on Spencer Street and stole alcohol before fleeing.

Police located the two girls at Southern Cross station and approached them on the concourse.

It’s then alleged two male officers were assaulted, one bitten and the other scratched, before OC spray was deployed to detain the teens.

Both police officers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A 15-year-old St Albans girl and a 15-year-old Elwood girl were both arrested and are assisting police with their enquiries.

“This was pretty crazy,” Seb Costello said.
