A City of Port Phillip councillor says he’s “disappointed” with the police response to vandals who cut a Captain Cook statue down at the ankles overnight.

Independent councillor Marcus Pearl says the attack was “obviously very coordinated” and it would have been noisy and taken at least 15 minutes.

He told 3AW’s Tom Elliott police were alerted while the vandalism was occurring, but they didn’t get to the state in time which was “disappointing to say the least”.
