Police warn anyone intent on causing trouble at Moomba will be dealt with
Victoria Police have warned anyone intent on causing trouble at the annual Moomba Festival this long weekend will be dealt with.
This year, festival-goers face being searched by police for weapons, after last year’s event was marred by violence between rival gangs.
At a press conference held today, Victoria Police said a new Monitoring and Assessment Centre will help stop trouble makers, allowing police to detect and disrupt violence before it occurs.
Alexandra Gardens and Flinders Street Station will be a focus, with extra resources being deployed. Public transport and train stations will also be heavily patrolled by transit police.
