Secretary of the Police Union of Victoria, Wayne Gatt, says the death of a 34-year-old man in Wyndham Vale in the early hours of this morning was preventable.

The intoxicated man was tragically struck by a car just hours after the state’s new sobering-up squad refused a police request to help him, and it’s left the police union boss wanting immediate change to the public drunkenness laws.

“Our members would’ve happily taken him into custody,” he told Heidi Murphy on 3AW Drive.
