Police swarm Altona Gate shopping centre

Altona Gate shopping centre is in lockdown, with police swarming the area in the search for an erratic driver.

Caller Tim told Neil Mitchell it’s “surrounded by marked and unmarked police” and the police helicopter has been brought in. He said shoppers were being escorted from the complex and no-one was allowed in.

Police say they saw a Ford Territory travelling at up to 150km/h on the Westgate Freeway this morning, and the vehicle was later seen entering an undercover carpark at Altona Gate shopping centre.

The dumped car was located in the carpark.

Police believe the driver was picked up by another vehicle and fled the scene.
