Police open fire as Dandenong deadbeats career towards them
Police have opened fire as a stolen car careered towards them overnight.
The drama started when two men allegedly carried out a violent theft at a Liquor store in Dandenong yesterday afternoon.
Police say the men were armed with a knife and a hammer.
After ransacking the store, the men and a female accomplice are believed to have fled in an allegedly stolen car.
When police spotted them on the Princes Highway about 7.15pm, they accelerated towards police, prompting one of the officers to open fire.
The vehicle was dumped on Gwenda Street.
All three occupants fleeing on foot.
The police officers involved were not injured.
Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation as per standard protocol.
