Timber buildings helping cut global emissions.

The forestry industry is confident Australia could become a world leader in sustainable, low emission timber construction.

A study suggests building more homes from wood, rather than steel and concrete, could reduce greenhouse gases by about 10% of what is needed to limit global warming to two degrees this century.

Rural editor Sophie Clarke caught up with Australian Forest Products Association of New South Wales chief executive Victor Violante to hear why timber is a more sustainable material.
