The tension between AFL and media is escalating

3AW FOOTBALL

The tension between the AFL and football media is escalating.

It began with Nathan Buckley saying a journalist should have his accreditation revoked for writing a story he believes was entirely made up.

Gillon McLachlan then backed the idea 3AW on Friday morning.

Veteran Adelaide footy writer Michelangelo Rucci told 3AW Football there’s as many lies told to journalists by clubs as from any other source.

“Gillon wants to have total accuracy – it’s got to go both ways,” Rucci said.

“I hope Gillon has done his due diligence.”

Rucci said removing accreditation won’t stop journalists writing stories during the week anyway.

Tony Shaw said Gillon was “pretty well gutless” when he refused to explicitly tell Neil Mitchell the article was false.

“It was embarrassing for Gil,” Shaw said.
