Refugee advocates explain why they protested at the Melbourne Cup

Protesters have climbed a crane at the Melbourne Cup.

The protesters, from the group Whistleblowers, Activists & Citizens Alliance, posted a banner on the Flemington racecourse crane reading “Evacuate Manus”.

Charlotte Lynch from WACA told Tom Elliott she wants the asylum seekers to be evacuated and resettled safely.

“What happening on Manus (Island) is a humanitarian crisis,” Ms Lynch said.
