Neurology professor tells Justin and Kate about a world-first epilepsy trial in Melbourne
A groundbreaking trial under way in Melbourne could help millions of epilepsy sufferers.
The trial sees patients treated through a pump that delivers medication directly to the brain.
The new delivery method aims to help patients avoid some of the side effects of traditional medication, which include weight gain and liver or kidney problems.
The palm-sized pump sits under the skin of the stomach.
Professor Mark Cook from St Vincent’s Hospital told Justin and Kate Melbourne’s research facilities are world-class.
“We really are in the world’s leading position to do work of this kind,” Prof Cook said.
