Lumpy Skin draws closer to Australian shores

The agriculture sector is standing ready to respond to a potential incursion of lumpy skin disease which is rapidly spreading across Indonesia.

The condition was detected overseas in March and has jumped from Sumatra to eastern Java – mainly passed on via mosquitos.

There’s concerns monsoonal weather could blow the insects into northern Australia.

Rural editor Sophie Clarke caught up with the Department of Agriculture’s chief veterinary officer Mark Schipp to hear more about what it could mean for our cattle industry.
