A Scottish plumber has unearthed a bottle containing a 135-year-old message.

Peter Allan was working on an Edinburgh house when he found the historic message.

“I cut a hole in the floor. Below it was this object, it was covered in dust,” he told Ross and Russel.

It was a bottle containing the note, which read “James Ritchie and John Grieve laid this floor, but they did not drink the whisky. October 6th 1887. Who ever finds this bottle may think our dust is blowing along the road.”.

“They must have known by the time the bottle was found they’d be long dead,” Mr Allan said.
